Polar Bear on the Beach

Here is a picture of the polar bear on the beach. We could not get too close to it, nor would we want to. If you look real close, you might be able to see the dogs in the area. Read the comments section of the last post to see how the bear lives with the dogs.

I think that we should try harder to save the artic. I want to do all i want to do to help the bears and every other animal in the artic. If there is some way I can help i want to. I've read some books about the Artic and all it's problems like "The Fire Enternal" by Chris D'Lacey.

I can't believe you saw a polar bear on the beach. That is amazing!
And it was living with dogs. That is so cool.

How is your research going?
I have a question why would there be a polar bear on the beach. The northern lights thing is really cool.

That is so cool. Are there just adult polar bears or are there babies too. Also how close were you to the polar bear???

Charlie and Nikki, Polar bears are often found by the water because their major food source is ring seals. However they need to go out on the ice to get the seals and ice has not yet formed on the Hudson. Therefore they are very hungry this time of the year. The polar bear in the picture is fed by a human, therefore he does stay in that area.

Hi Ms. McMinn!

It was great chatting with you on MOnday morning! It was another one of those high tech Scofield moments that was really special.

After the live chat we discussed a few things about adaptations and why plants and small and low in the tundra. The students came to many interesting conclusions!

Thanks a lot!

Mr. Forde :-)

Whenever I see polar bears on T.V they always are moving so slow and are very lazy. What makes the polar bears dangerous? Also When I see polar bears on T.V they are usally traveling in packs of 3 or 4, why do you think this polar bear was traveling all alone?

I think bears can live peacefully with dogs if the dogs do not approach them and look threatening. Same goes for people, bears will not bother you if you do not invade their habitat or approach them menacingly or accidentally challenging them. My dad said that when he was in the army, they taught you how to get away from a bear safely.
1) dont make eye contact
2) BACK away slowly, do not turn your back on the animal
3) keep your hands where the bear can see them, as to let it *size you up*
4) do NOT run away screaming. (haha)

Ashley.C- The land looks very diffrent from our land, it looks very dry like a desert, and here there is so much more life to everthing and there is more trees. The polar bear looks like he/she is looking for food, i hope he found some for him and his family!!!
